Shots that have influenced my own production
Shots from other
music videos that have influenced my own production.
These shots from Little Lion Man by Mumford and Sons really
influenced my production, I like how rural the place is that they are
performing in, it kind of seems as though they are playing in an empty theater
as a wish that people were there. The lighting within it is something that I
really love, I love how dark it is, but how warm the bulb fairy lights make it
seem, it’s very welcoming and is something that I would enjoy to see within my
own production.
For my own production, I wanted it outdoors on a field with
a large fire and fairy lights and people running around, and then my friend
told me about a video that was just like my idea and I saw it and the shots
that were within it are the shots I had envisioned in my head, the lighting
within the video is just incredible and has such a warm delicate feel to it, it
is something that I will hopefully bring out within my own piece.
These shots are from the song I actually am doing, Kings of
Leon’s Back Down South, I felt that this idea of having people escaping their
houses as it were to come to this place would be cool, in the video they only
have 2 girls that do it, in my video there will be a lot more, but I felt that
this helped create a better story line to my piece.
I liked the shot from Macklemore’s Same Love of the dropping
of petals, I thought the shot was effective and looked cool in slow motion,
which is something I am hoping to use but with leaves as people are running
through the woods. The other clip of the song with the sparklers is something
else I really liked as I felt it gave another cool lighting effect but also
gave a sense of togetherness which would be useful within the song.

Costume Ideas
My genre is indie and from this was an instant idea of how I wanted them to dress. I felt like festival wear would show the indie style off very well so I opted for this. So, I wanted short shorts, with long tops and wellies, or baggy dresses with wellies. For the studio parts I wanted it more dark, because Florence herself is indie, I took a lot of inspiration from her, in particularly from her video 'Shake It Out' where she wears a long black dress, this made me want to dress my actor in this dress.
This first drawing is of a girl wearing an oversized checkered jacket over a plain top, she is also wearing shorts with wellington boots.
I decided to chose this outfit, as I feel that the indie clothes are very relaxed, and festival clothing is very relaxed which is where I got this slouchy clothing idea from. I think it would work well within my music video and would complement the genre.
My second drawing is of a girl in a kimono, which is a light material version of a cardigan, its used as an accessory, they usually come in an array of colours too which would link in well with my video. The top underneath would be a loose one which goes over the short shorts, accompanied with wellies, this again gives off the indie and festival feel and look which is something very relevant within my music video.
The costume I wanted in the woods would have to fit in with the festival indie look I was going for, but would also need to stand out, I instantly thought of a dress that I had worn for my summer ball, which was a short red dress with a sweetheart neckline, I thought this would be perfect with a little Kimono over the top accompanied with some wellies.
The second costume I wanted for my main role was similar to the one Florence wore in one of her videos, which is what I was influenced by, it was a long black dress, this one in particular was actually worn by the actress who also wore this to her summer ball. This would allow a big contrast but also wouldn't sway too far from the indie feel to it.
From my initial ideas I came up with these drawings;

I also looked into the kind of headdresses and the ways in which I wanted their hair to look like, I came across flowers in the hair, which I had already expected and drew, but I also came across coloured string in the hair and feathers, I thought this would fit in well with my genre. I also really wanted wavy hair as I felt this would compliment m genre choice nicely. These are the kinds of things I looked at;

Update - Change of Plan
Unfortunately due to some circumstances with the band members, I am no longer able to carry out the original idea I wanted to do, however, I have already come up with a different way to incorporate my idea into a different song that would work better. It would mean I could use less people, which would be more reliable. I'm going to stick with the same genre, as its something I love and would ensure I wouldn't fall behind.
